Hi, there!
I’m Erica Glidden, owner of North Star Psychological Services. I’m a clinical psychotherapist, fully licensed in the state of Michigan, with 10 years of experience in the field.
I’m glad you’re here, as I know that taking the first step toward change can be overwhelming. I look forward to helping you navigate your path and reach your unique goals while focusing on growth and sustainability.
Education
I received a Bachelors of Arts in psychology from Michigan State University, and a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan in Clinical Social Work, specializing in interpersonal practice and mental health. I am also trained and certified in Perinatal Mental Health.
Clinical Experience
I have worked as the Director of Care Transitions in a sub-acute rehabilitation facility, providing psychological support and treatment to patients following an illness/injury.
I spent the next several years at Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit as the Program Director, providing psychosocial support to those affected by a cancer diagnosis.
In 2018, I refocused my attention on my clinical practice, starting at Relationship Institute before starting my own private practice, North Star Psychological Services.
Therapeutic Practice/Style
My mission is to treat each person with compassion, kindness and respect. I know that therapy is not a “one size fits all” process, which is why my treatment style is integrative, dynamic, eclectic, and heavily goal focused. My approach is very engaging and active- not your typical “sit back and listen” sessions. I work to meet each client where they are in their journey while helping to motivate and encourage positive change and personal growth.
My solution-focused approach to therapy includes a broad range of techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy, strength-based approach, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and supportive therapy.
I am passionate about helping people to re-discover their strengths in a safe, non-judgmental environment. I have additional training in: Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Areas of Specialty
Young adults (18+), women’s issues — including postpartum depression, perinatal mood disorders and anxiety, life transitions, depression, anxiety, life-coaching and couple’s therapy (including polyamory and non-monogamy).
